About the Artist
Carolina Gallop only planned to visit New Orleans. She never thought that she would stay.
She loved to create and design clothes; however, she never thought to do it professionally.
Her decision to use her talent to create unique fashions resulted in her first fashion show,
held at the Fashion Cafe in December 1996. After receiving a tremendous
response to her designs, she began Carolina Gallop & Assoc. In 2004 she started Mouth of
the South Promotions to help promote some of the area restaurants/clubs as well as the
pool of talent that we have here in the New Orleans area.
Carolina Gallop was a featured artist in the visual arts exhibition Sheroes, organized by The
National Organization for Women and Hanson Galleries New Orleans in conjunction with Art
for Art’s Sake at Hanson Gallery. She has done fashion shows for the NFL Players Party that
Fashion Cafe hosted during the Super bowl in 1997 at the Municipal Auditorium. The Hyatt
Regency Hotel (June, 1997), Cafe Brazil (September, 1997); House of Blues (May, 1998);
Patout’s Bourbon Vieux Room (August 98); and the Fashion Cafe (November 98). Since
1999 she has done the Millennium Fashion Show Fundraisers to raise funds for the victims
of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras, as well as donating her fashion pieces to the various
charities around the New Orleans area. She has been doing her fashion events at Le Chat
Noir since August 1999 and was one of the first shows held at Le Chat Noir before their
opening. She has since done shows at various venues around the city in 2000, 2001, 2002,
2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006. During these events she showcases different talents,
performers, musicians, comedians, etc. In addition to a great fashion show (over 70 pieces
of her design are shown) and the talent showcased, there is great food, which she gets
donated from various area restaurants. She has 200-350 in attendance at every show and
over 20 models walking down her catwalks.
As a native of Honduras, Carolina captures in her clothes the vibrancy and energy of Central
America. Her love of this energy is also her reason for living in New Orleans. She finds
inspiration for her designs in the festive atmosphere of the city, its culture, and heritage.
According to Carolina, “There is no place in the states like New Orleans. What is
so wonderful is that a woman can be beautiful, powerful and independent. These are the
woman that I design for; Women who are not afraid!”. After being displaced by Hurricane
Katrina Carolina returned to New Orleans to start up her business again. She lives in Atlanta
and New Orleans.
Women of all ages will find Carolina Gallop’s clothes appealing and affordably priced. They
are tailored to suit each woman’s sense of style and comfort. Because she creates
“undated, non-seasonal clothes”, there are no rules. From classic, to funky; short to long, full
to fitted. Women can create an image that reflects who they are.
